A lighter touch

Today was a fun day. We went, with two other couples, to the Dubois market. They have it twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. We saw a lot of other missionary couples there, and we all had fun looking for interesting things to buy. I'm excited to say I found a lot of things, and I love them.  They have the cute fans that make wonderful decorations and work really well when you go to church to cool you off. I also found a nativity,a bag, a necklace, and a small decorative elephant. Ross found a tie and some bagels. I could have bought more, but I thought I would save something for later. Afterwards we went to a place they call little Costco. It isn't anything like the other grocery stores. It's found on an alley that has no parking at all. You try to find a place along the alley and hope you don't go in the ditch and you hope no one hits your car while it's parked. They are actually pretty good about not hitting your car, if you consider how many cars and trucks go up and down the road and how narrow it is. The store is just a orange colored stucco building crammed next to a lot of shacks that has one dimly lit room with a lot of American products stacked around. They are things you would find at Costco. Thus the name. I'm sure that isn't the real name. We found things you can't find anywhere else.

Cooking has been a challenge here. Our stove top only has two working units, and we have tried cooking in the oven and have had less than good results.  We tried raisin oatmeal cookies and banana, chocolate chip bread. Both items get done on the outside and not so done on the inside.  We will keep trying.  We have a water filter that is really nice. It makes it so we don't have to boil our water. It does make a moaning sound every time you use it. I'm not sure if the neighbors can hear it or not.  It's like we wake up the beast everytime we want water. We could call it Moaning Myrtle.

  1. We love reading your blog. It brings back so many memories of our adventures. We attended church in Singapore for sometime before we could understand what they were saying. Next time you go to the market, take a picture.
We love your description of driving there.
    Love you both
